2012 F1 in Schools Greece & Cyprus National Finals

More than 50 students on nine teams from 8 middle and high schools around the Greece and Cyprus battled it out on 14th June for the prestigious National Championship.

"Ground Force Project", from the Avgouleas – Linardatoas High School, was declared the overall winners of the 2012 F1 in Schools Greece Technology Challenge.

"Pegasus 2012”, from Makarios Lyceum Dasoupoli, Nicosia in Cyprus, was declared the winners of the 2012 F1 in Schools Cyprus Technology Challenge.

F1 in Schools is run in Greece and Cyprus by the SETApps (Science & Educational Technology Applications). A great day was had by all and the many prize and award winners are below - congratulations to all.

Ground Force Project, a team of students from Avgouleas – Linardatos School, took the First Place overall position at the F1 in Schools™ Greece National Finals, taking the National Champions crown and with it a place at the F1 in Schools World Finals 2012. The same team won the Fastest Car Award and the Best Portfolio Award.

Argo”, a team of Greek students from Italian School of Athens took the 2nd Place. The same team won the Best Sponsorship and Marketing Award.

“Pegasus Omega Racing”, a team of Students from Doukas School took the 3rd Place, and the Best Engineered Car Award.

‘Event Sponsors’ Award, “Speed Deamons, a team of students from Ellinogermaniki Agogi School.

Research and Development Award, “Art”, a team of students from Arsakio High School of Patras.

Verbal Presentation Award, “Atomo G6” (atomog6.blogspot.gr), a team of Girls from Avdira High School of Xanthis.

Innovation Award, “Havoc Racing”, a team of students from 1st High School of Thessaloniki.

Perseverance in the Face of Adversity Award, “Avgouleas Racers”, a team of students from Avgouleas – Linardatos School.

“Pegasus 2012”, a team of students from Makarios Lyceum Dasoupoli, Nicosia in Cyprus will represent Cyprus at the F1 in Schools World Finals 2012. The same team won the Knock – Out Competition Races.

In addition to racing head-to-head, the competing teams were judged on the quality of engineering, portfolio, resource management, marketing, graphic design and sponsorship activities and on a verbal presentation of their work.

Ground Force project from Greece and Pegasus 2012 from Cyprus will now progress to the World Championships which will be held at Abu Dhabi from 29th October to 31st October 2012 where they will compete against national winners from 31 countries from around the world.

“Congratulations to all the teams who took part in the first F1 in Schools Greece & Cyprus competition. The standards were exceptionally high and above any expectation. It was great to see what these students can do when work together. It gives us much more hope that Greece could still make a spectacular come back if we decide to cooperate with each other. The commitment demonstrated by both the students and their teachers is incredible. It was fantastic to see how enthusiastic the Greek & Cyprus students are about the F1 in Schools Educational Program from modeling and planning their cars to racing them”, said Dimitris Polymatidis, In Country Coordinator, and Founder of SETApps.

“Our thanks to Ellinogermaniki Agogi School for hosting an excellent National Finals and to Greek Physical Society, National Technical University of Athens and SeitanF1 for supporting our National Finals. They have been very supportive of the F1 in Schools program, and with their assistance we will continue to see the program grow for years to come”, said Dimitris Polymatidis.
